Uhlmann Establishes Company in India

Uhlmann Pac-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG established a wholly owned sales and service company in Pune, India, in October 2015. A team of initially five employees will locally support existing Indian customers and solicit new orders from the beginning of 2016. Uhlmann has cooperated with a local partner in India up until now. “India is the most strongly developing pharmaceutical market worldwide. Twenty percent of all generics are already being produced there – and the upward trend is continuing. Through the new branch office, Uhlmann wants to tap into a larger share of this growth than previously”, explains Siegfried Drost, Managing Director. Altogether, Uhlmann now has eleven wholly owned sales and service locations worldwide.

The foundation of a company in India entailed major bureaucratic hurdles in the past. As of this year, the Indian government is taking steps to simplify the procedure to promote the location of national and international companies. Uhlmann is now also profiting from this. “We have taken the opportunity to enter the Indian market at a calculable risk”, says Holger Hochdorfer, Project Director, who is responsible for the foundation of the Group company in India.Uhlmann India Pvt. Ltd. will be based in the Nyati Corporate Park in Pune, located in the west of India.

The metropolis, with a population of over three million, is in the state of Maharashtra, which is one of four centers serving the Indian pharmaceutical market. At the same time, Uhlmann is opening a sales office in the financial capital Mumbai.

India’s major pharmaceutical technology exhibition, P-MEC, will serve as a springboard at the beginning of December. Uhlmann will participate together with three Excellence United partner companies in order to intensify existing customer relationships and establish new contacts. Siegfried Drost comments: “The time is ripe for local involvement in India. It is both a challenge and an opportunity for Uhlmann. I am confident that we can convince the national and international pharmaceutical manufacturers in India of the advantages of our products, our service, and our know-how to a greater extent than before.”
