The future of parenteral packaging was in focus at the Uhlmann on-site event 2023

The topic of sustainability is also becoming increasingly important in the pharmaceutical industry, and the challenges that this change entails was one of the top issues of the Parenteral Packaging Event 2023. Together with various partner companies, Uhlmann naturally demonstrated the options that are already available today for packaging parenteral products in a particularly gentle, efficient, sustainable and traceable manner.

There was a lot on offer at the Uhlmann Campus in Laupheim: 11 presentations by experts from the pharmaceutical industry, 3 workshops, 2 packaging lines and 5 partner companies.

Presentation of the latest packaging lines for parenteral products

The Uhlmann highlight was the premiere of the PTC 200 Parenteral Tray Center in line with the S 500 serialization unit and the EC 12 case packer as well as the upstream labelling unit for vials from our partner Bausch + Ströbel. The PTC 200 is specially designed for the sustainable packaging of parenteral products in carton trays and is particularly flexible. The PTC 200 also reliably processes trays made of other materials and is particularly gentle on sensitive products such as syringes, ampoules, vials and pens.

The second line that packed live on site was a BLU 200 consisting of a blister machine and cartoner plus S 500 serialization unit and the case packer with ECP 12 palletizing module. Special features of this line: the blister made of PP mono material and the tracking of the products - from the syringe to the pallet. Thanks to Pexcite Track & Trace, each syringe can be clearly tracked and the production data can be easily evaluated.

Exclusive lecture program

In exciting presentations, packaging experts provided insights into various topics: Not only the challenges of transitioning to sustainable secondary packaging were addressed, but also how to successfully involve multiple stakeholders in project implementation or how to avoid waste and achieve recyclability when packaging light-sensitive medicines.

A pharmacist gave us an insight into a high-speed solution for handling vials that has already been delivered. Of course, the topic of Pharma 4.0 was also on the agenda. Among other things, there were answers to the question of how to manage a modern value chain in pharmaceutical production.

Workshops

Innovation up close: The various workshops offered by Uhlmann and our partners Südpack Medica and Faller Packaging provided practical insights.

For example, there was a live demonstration of the latest Pexcite Smart Production applications for Pharma 4.0, interaction with a packaging lifecycle calculator and a design thinking and prototyping workshop for carton trays and mono-material blisters.

Our partners

We would like to thank our partner companies Bausch + Ströbel, Faller Packaging, Südpack Medica, pester pac automation and SG Stevanato Group. The topics presented by our partner companies rounded off the program perfectly, enabling us to give our guests an understanding of the packaging of parenteral products along the entire value chain.
