Slim Cardboard Trays: new standards in parenteral packaging

Uhlmann Pac-Systeme’s Slim Cardboard Trays reduce material consumption, transport volume, and CO₂ emissions. Shown here with four pens in a folding carton, they are suitable for formats such as syringes and vials. The Parenteral Tray Center PTC 200 handles tray erecting, filling, and packaging. This paper-based solution replaces plastic, increases pallet capacity by up to 60%, and lowers material and logistics costs—boosting efficiency and supporting sustainability goals.
Sustainable Tray Solution for Parenterals
Uhlmann Pac-Systeme, a specialist in pharmaceutical packaging machines, has developed a new cardboard tray for parenteral packaging. The solution features a slim and lightweight packaging design, reduces material usage and transport volume, and thus contributes to lowering CO2 emissions in the supply chain. The Slim Cardboard Trays can be flexibly adapted to different formats such as vials, ampoules, syringes, and injectors. The Parenteral Tray Center PTC 200 aligns the trays, fills them, and packs them into folding cartons, enabling smooth integration into automated processes.
Optimized Design for Greater Efficiency
This particularly slim tray design was developed as part of a customer project. The experts at the Uhlmann Packaging Competence Center took particular account of the customer's specific requirements regarding dimensions, processes, packaging costs, and sustainability targets. In this case, the application involved optimizing syringe packaging and switching from plastic to paper packaging material. The number of syringes per pallet could be increased by 60% compared to the previous solution. This is based on a modified packaging pattern that allows more syringes per folding carton, more folding cartons per case, and thus a higher product density on the pallet. The customer's essential requirements for product protection, process reliability, and efficiency are consistently implemented.
With the new Slim Cardboard Trays, Uhlmann Pac-Systeme offers an economical and sustainable packaging solution for pens, which is currently in high demand on the market.
„Our new tray solution is an efficient solution for the pharmaceutical industry. It enables customized packaging with lower resource consumption and reduced environmental impact, while optimizing cost efficiency. This helps companies achieve sustainability goals faster and make supply chains more efficient.‟
